SUGO  design founding members Kevin and Giulia wanted to ask some questions about what a lamp design can be: When is a lamp not just a lamp but a sculpture? Can it be part of a family? Can it emit motion and emotion like humans? These spike a light bulb in their minds and the OMINO lamp was born. They decided on a lamp base on movements of us human as SUGO design team are always inspired by motion and elements related to biological lifeform which the design teams see as a great fit to their ideology. The design is a symbolization of everyday activity by humans in any given situation and activities. Made simply by bending tubular steel into a symbolic movement of the human body with an opaque glass sphere and internal lighting emission that represent the human head and mind, it is a design that evokes people within spaces. Omino lamp questions the archaic representation of lighting as just objects of illumination and fuses silhouette of a humanoid into a dynamic design. The initial collection contains 6 motions with one representing a young infant to mimic the collective of a family but infinite designs can be expanded as human motion are one of the most complex and diversify in the animal kingdom. When OMINO lamp is places inside a space, the audience and the designs become part of the space and transfuses the user with the design into a single representation of sculptural forms. “It is a unique concept that fuses the user and a static product into one unified live and inanimate dichotomy in the most surreal and abstractive ways” as remark by Kevin and Giulia.

Years ago, SUGO  founder Kevin Chu went to Guilin for one of his adventure bicycling trips and after returning from this experience he envisioned that one day on using design elements inspired by this stunning location in one of his creations. Consisting of a rectangular steel base that is embedded with LED lightings, laser sliced acrylic panels (SUGO team call them Hills!) in variety of texture and finishes it can be placed freely over the grooves situated on the top of the base. Once the light is switched on the acrylic hills will absorb the vertical illumination into its laser pantograph lines and mimic a glowing mountain Landscape/Lampscape. GUILIN LAMPSCAPE put the user into the role of the creator to invent whatever composition is desired. Since the acrylic hills can be exchanged easily new designs can be adapted for future collections. It is not a geometric static object but a transformable entity just like the essence of nature it derives inspiration from.
