SUGO  design founding members Kevin and Giulia wanted to ask some questions about what a lamp design can be: When is a lamp not just a lamp but a sculpture? Can it be part of a family? Can it emit motion and emotion like humans? These spike a light bulb in their minds and the OMINO lamp was born. They decided on a lamp base on movements of us human as SUGO design team are always inspired by motion and elements related to biological lifeform which the design teams see as a great fit to their ideology. The design is a symbolization of everyday activity by humans in any given situation and activities. Made simply by bending tubular steel into a symbolic movement of the human body with an opaque glass sphere and internal lighting emission that represent the human head and mind, it is a design that evokes people within spaces. Omino lamp questions the archaic representation of lighting as just objects of illumination and fuses silhouette of a humanoid into a dynamic design. The initial collection contains 6 motions with one representing a young infant to mimic the collective of a family but infinite designs can be expanded as human motion are one of the most complex and diversify in the animal kingdom. When OMINO lamp is places inside a space, the audience and the designs become part of the space and transfuses the user with the design into a single representation of sculptural forms. “It is a unique concept that fuses the user and a static product into one unified live and inanimate dichotomy in the most surreal and abstractive ways” as remark by Kevin and Giulia.

FOGLIA (meaning leaf in Italian) was an inspiration taken form nature where sunlight activates Photosynthesis through leaves creating its nutrition while plants itself absorbs harmful Carbon Dioxide from Air and creates Oxygen to sustain all lifeforms on our planet. During the day when FOGLIA places near any natural light it will work to clean the surrounding environment while during the night when the light is switched on, the cleansing action will continue. The light is operated via App and Voice Control. There are a series of double side treated Photocatalytic screens that can magnetically attach to the openings of the lamp thus giving the design infinite customization possibilities. The more screen accessories one purchases, the better the environment cleansing effect as this increases the reactive surface area. LIBELLULA-Inspired by the beautiful structure of the dragonfly wing and a tribute to our multi-award winning architecture project: The VERTICAL + HORIZONTAL Farm Tower Concept of 201, each of the Photocatalytic acrylic screens takes over 3 hours to be laser cut as each of the pattern is extremely intricate and all in non-repetitive geometry. The laser engraved grooves absorbs any direct or indirect light that creates a highly unique design never seen before in the lighting industry.

Generally, people don’t like to have rainy days! It gets us wet and it makes daily activity a chore to complete. But rain is the essence of life on our planet as earth is composed of 97.5% unusable saltwater and only 2.5% fresh water. Rain itself remains the giver to any biological survival and it is the vital element that sustain our planet and yet we as a species also have an intense romantic notion of rain in movies and literature. Listening the gentle ripples of droplets colliding over static puddles and observing cascading streams of water flowing over tactile surfaces evokes a sense of chaos and serenity at the same time. SUGO design decided to bring the essence of rain into this creation but using indirect illumination instead. Circular acrylic disc of 3 different sizes at 5mm thickness are laser engraves with gradient distance cylindrical lines that absorbs lights from the design’s central lighting organization. This recreates the ripple effect of rain drop over static water. Once illuminated the ceiling lamp will becomes an artistic installation of ripples above the user and installed interior space. SUGO design also took inspiration from the Chinese believe that water as an element can bring luck and fortune to any given situations. A Walk in The Rain is not just a lamp but perhaps an interactive installation in any interior; perhaps the lamps can glow slowly with additional technology and perhaps there is background ambient soundtrack of falling water noises. SUGO’s design wishes to push lighting into a new sense of interactive creativity to accentuate motion and sensual euphoria of this creation into any interior spaces.

Lightings are usually functional objects that while illuminates in a vast array of ways, seems always to be static in geometry. SUGO  design sees a solution that requires unconventional thinking and execution in order to stray away from tradition. FLY Lamp is inspired by all biological entities that can be airborne and seems to defy gravity. It is created to redefine what pendants lamps can be within an interior. Conceived by simply folding a piece of 8mm thick acrylic with LED illumination placed in the center of design, in either suspended form with its wing tips facing upwards or downwards, the design team envision it as flocks of birds, perhaps paper airplanes and even butterflies flying inside an infinite space. The lamp seems to glow only on its edges due to the specific way and exhausting research of ingeniously utilizing indirect illumination in mathematically calculated placement of the design. With its modular system it can bought either as a single piece or as collective clusters of flying objects and can be composed freely in any interior space. The more one installs the design, the more amazing the interior becomes. It is an idea that adds dynamic movement to any spatial enclosure and a tribute to the most vital element of on this planet: Sky and Air while also rejecting the boundaries of gravity. Human’s persistent obsession with ascending into the heavens leads to FLY lamp’s conception. In nature and our lives, we are encased in constant motion and this design celebrate and accentuate motion in most static interiors. FLY away from life’s mundanity and FLY above all burdens of all social boundaries is what the design team hopes to inspire.
